Hi! I’m Ryan Behrends, Founder and CEO of No Bull Financial Consulting, and I’m glad you’re here!

I originally fell in love with finance as a college sophomore during the Great Recession. I began studying economics and finance in my free time in order to better understand the situation.

After college, I spent a year in the software industry before opening a financial services agency. It was at this point that I first began studying accounting and Quickbooks to do my own bookkeeping.

After five years, I realized that financial sales wasn’t the best fit for me after all. I resigned on New Year’s Eve 2017 and resolved to build a business that leveraged my fascination with finance while helping small business owners succeed. I founded No Bull Financial Consulting in 2018 based on three core values: providing Honest Advice, charging only Flat Fees, and avoiding all conflicts of interest and unnecessary complications—No Bullshit.

Originally, I wanted to consult with small business owners about budgeting, investing, and debt management. Things that impacted their personal finances along with their business finances. There are a lot of questions that go into that process, but one in particular stood out as a problem— “What’s your income?”

Over and over again, successful small business owners told me the same things:

“I don’t know. I’d have to call my CPA.”

“Ugh. I’ll have to find my last tax return and get back to you.”

“I just take money out of the company account when I have to pay bills.”

I thought I had the answer: “Oh, that’s fine. If you’ll just log in to QuickBooks, I can do the math for you pretty quickly.”

But that didn’t go far.

“I only do my books at tax time.”

“Well, uhh… I tried QuickBooks and I think I messed it up.”

“My bookkeeper fell behind and I’m still waiting for reports from six months ago.”

“I have a bookkeeper, but they don’t take our calls or answer our emails. I’m not sure they know what they’re doing.”

“I… had a really rough year. I couldn’t bear to see the numbers and I knew I couldn’t pay my taxes anyway, so I just didn’t do the books.”

And it hit me: small business owners don’t need another “financial advisor.” They need a reliable, knowledgeable bookkeeping service to help them understand their businesses and make better decisions! So finally I said, “Well, I’m QuickBooks certified. I could do your books.”

The rest, as they say, is history. I got a few clients, then a few referrals, and the next thing you know I’m running a bookkeeping service! We’ve listened to our clients’ feedback and focused on their needs: accurate reporting, reliable deadlines, and timely customer support.

While many “bookkeeping firms” subcontract their work to freelancers, often overseas, I think that’s Bullshit. I don’t want to earn your trust only to turn around and send your books to someone halfway across the world that you’ve never met and you’ll never speak to.

That’s why the No Bull team is built of W2 employees instead of contractors, and everyone is U.S. based to ensure a timely response to your questions. All of our bookkeepers have a minimum of two years of experience and are QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor certified.
